As we are building support across campus, we are also receiving support from graduate students on campuses as far away as Washington State.
At the University of Washington, Jesse McClelland, a PhD Candidate in Geography, writes: “in higher education today, graduate students are increasingly called upon to support and complement the work of faculty, whether as research assistants, teaching assistants, instructors, or tutors. These valuable contributions to campus require secure contracts, fair health benefits, decent pay, and equitable work conditions. In my department, faculty have acknowledged the importance of these priorities ever since the UW administration began bargaining with our union of student-workers more than ten years ago.”
He also “support[s] graduate students at Duke who are building a union and defending quality higher education!”
We are so glad to have support from Jesse and other graduate students across the country.
